how to fix broken headphones

 

For some reason, it seems that headphones and speakers tend to break at the worst times. I know a few people who were only listening to music in their headphones on their way to work when they got into a car accident.

It can be scary and no one wants to find out that they've lost all of their music history because the headphone cord has broken somewhere along the line. Everyone's been there before, so we're here with some quick tips for pulling your broken headphone cords back together and making them good as new!

-Make sure you have new batteries in your charger or docking station for your phone, because sometimes a quick charge can really make an old pair of headphones come back alive again.

-If you've broken the cord on the headphones, be sure to use heat from a hair dryer to heat up the plastic connecting the two halves. Try wrapping some cloth around the end of your headphone cord and using it as a hot pad.

This can really speed up the process because sometimes you can loosen up those stress points by heating them up with the hair dryer. If you don't have one lying around, you can find one at most drugstores!

-If your charging station isn't working anymore, try using a screwdriver and a pair of pliers to open it so that you can get into any pin that is creating a problem. If there isn't any visible damage or wear, then you might just need to replace the charging station with a new one.

-I know, I know… by all means try not to rip a pair of headphones up while they're still working in order to fix them later. But if you're really at the end of your rope,

try using your wire cutters to carefully trim off some of the excess cord and reattach it. If you do this when there's a small problem, it can eventually develop into a larger problem, so be careful!

-I always find that I want my own little travel kit for my headphones. Sitting in class and realizing that your headphones are broken halfway through is not very fun.

I like to have gauze and superglue on hand in case of emergencies. I've also heard that hot glue can be a good idea, but I've never tried it myself, so use your own discretion.
